Terrestrial (Primary Rainforest, Freshwater Swamp Forest). It grows in lowland forests, freshwater swamp forests, ridge-top forests, and heath forests, up to 1,100 m altitude. In undisturbed to slightly disturbed (open) mixed dipterocarp, keranga and peat-swamp forests up to 1100 m altitude. Mostly on hillsides and ridges, rarely on alluvial sites. On clay to sandy and ultramafic soils.

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Central Catchment Nature Reserve (Bukit Kallang, Mandai Forest, and Nee Soon Swamp Forest), and Chestnut Avenue.
