Terrestrial (Secondary Rainforest, Riverine, Mountain, Freshwater Swamp Forest, Disturbed Area / Open Ground). It usually grows in rocky rivers, secondary forest, swamp forest, open places in scrub or disturbed mixed dipterocarp, keranga and swamp forests up to 500 m altitude, and occasionally on mountain tops. In Singapore, this species is also found in adinandra belukar (secondary forest on degraded soil, dominated by tiup tiup, Adinandra dumosa). Mostly on alluvial sites with sandy soils, but also on hillsides and on clay.
