Terrestrial (Primary Rainforest, Secondary Rainforest, Freshwater Swamp Forest). Occurs on a wide variety of soils and is common in secondary forests and mixed dipterocarp forest on low hills and undulating land, and in freshwater swamp forest, up to 800 m altitude.It becomes abundant in secondary forest and is apparently a fast-growing light demander.

Caterpillar Moth Food Plant. It is the preferred local food plant for caterpillars of the moths, Daphnis hypothous, and Parotis marginata. Its flowers are also insect-pollinated.
